Someone was asking me the other day about some good places to take a canoe around here.

Since I own one, I was kind of embarrassed because I didn't know where to tell him.

You all know how my work schedule is (just finished my third weekend working in a row). So you also know I never get to get out and find things like that out.

I've seen some pretty good stretches of river, like over in the leatherwood/viper area, below the perry county park.

I don't know any good put in or take out spots though. So far my canoe experiences have been limited to rowing around on the lake.

Anyone got any good locations in and around perry county for someone who just wants to do some floating around on a river?

Hey man hows it going, I figured you had been covered up. I didn't know you had a canoe , your going to have to call in sick and sneak off with us :D 8) . The first section from yerkes to the low water bridge at Dunraven is a good float with good putins and takeouts. There are several places to put in and take out from Blackey to Hazard you just have to look for the roads that turn off 7 into the river(way to many to list). Redbird is another river close that is a good float. the middle fork has several places along the old road to Hyden. Archer your going to have to sneak off ,just let me know when and were there.

No kidding on the callin in sick part.

As it is right now I have almost a full months worth of comp time saved up (the states way of dealing with overtime). When I went on vacation a few weeks ago, I worked enough time before and after, that I only used 5 hours of my vacation time, and I was gone for two weeks.

So I still have over two weeks of vacation time to use up.

But yeah, I have a canoe, it's a pretty big size too. It's a Coleman, plastic, 17 foot boat. It's a monster. What little I've gotten to use it I've had a blast. I'd love to get on a nice slow river and try it out too. Just take it slow, lay back, nap a little, fish a little.

I have a little canoe cart two, it's basically two bicycle tires with a little metal frame that I can set one end of the canoe on, and move it around by myself with no problem. Even loaded with gear it's still easy to move, just so long as the gear is over the tires and not on the end I'm carrying.

Another thing I bought was a piece that goes in the receiver hitch of my vehicle, it sticks way up, even with the roof of the vehicle. I just have to pick one end of the canoe up and place it on the top of the little rack (the top rotates). Strap it down, then pick up the other end and walk it around over top of the truck, so I can load it myself.

As you can tell, I've basically just used the canoe myself, never really had anyone go with me anywhere when I would take it out. I had to get me some stuff to make it easier to use for me.

I'd still like to find a smaller canoe somewhere, something a little easier to handle.

I have the same canoe ,they are perfect for camping on the river (you can load tons in it). I also made a bass seat mount for the middle ,It rides a lot better with one if your sitting in the middle. I know the rig your talking about to load your canoe (cabelas I think). I have a welder so I just took the pic and built one they are killer for loading a canoe. We can go anytime you like, Randy wants us to come back to the Tug,your welcome to come along and catch some of those big smallies. We can also go to the south Fork of the Kentucky at Onedia and do a float there, Randy wants to come do that(may even do a overnight ). It's up to you guys.

Yelp,... I'll be ready to go in a day or two or three or four & etc. ::rock::

Haven't been down to the Tug,..but a guy I was talking to today said it was muddy, must have rained hard up river toward Yeager or Welch Wv. in the last few days.
You guy's are definitely WELCOME back for a trip on the Tug.

The Levisa is clear & at summer level.

I believe they are all in fairly decent shape,..we just have a hard decision deciding which one to fish. ::mixed:: ::woah::
