Since we have got our Holston trip next week, I am going to use this weekend to explore some new water that I have wanted to check out forever.

First, on Saturday I am going to clinch. I am shoal-hunting all day, finding all the roads I can that run by the river on the way to Sneedville. Gotta be some good spots up there, I just feel it.

Sunday, Clear Fork. I can remember going with my dad to work sometimes when he worked in Jelico, TN. We drove over the top of Fonde mountain, through the most remote country you could imagine, on the way there. And I can remember looking down getting close to Jelico on top of the mounain, looking down a cliff and seeing this absolutely picture perfect...well river. I remember it being much wider than Powell. I honestly think that was the last time I went to Jelico that way. But I can see that river in my head so clearly. This is going to be a wild trip because its a lot of getting lost in some backcountry....no gas stations for at least 45 to an hour away.

I have good feelings about it...On the list of KY Smallie Streams it says there are 19 miles of floatable water...Which to me indicates wide and deeper than say Powell. I just hope I see the place I remember seeing as a kid. I cant wait for Sunday more than Saturday. My pap has always told me tales of catching 6-7lb smallies from Clear Fork and also Laurel Fork. Find it hard to believe, but we will see. Ill definately get some pics.

We all need to be on the look for new water. We as a group need all the knowledge we can about local fishing, so I think exploring new water is just as important and often times just as much fun as fishing your favorite hole.

Just had an even better idea...I think I can ride my wheeler from behind my barn, hit Tackett Creek and follow one of the forks all the way to Hwy 90 near Anthras...probably find Clear Fork from there. Will be a good long ride, hopefully ending up in some good fishing.

I'm thinking of going over near Hyden and try the middle fork sunday, if I get a chance. Theres also a place called greasy creek that has smallies in it.I may try both :D. If I go I 'll let you know how it went.

Thing is about most of these places...Water so low right now it makes finding smallie holes hard. Im going to take the long way home tonight, drive through Williamsburg over the mountain through Frakes...check this place out a little.

I've been checking out the pontoon boats at Bass Pro , I usually get something fishing related every year, I've been seriously thinking of getting one . I think they would be even easier to drag threw the shallows and perfect for exploring new water(even when it is low, they weigh nothing ). :D

i'll probably get a one seater , it will be a lot easier to handle in low water. I think you can get a decent one for about $400.00 or $500.00. thats not to bad if you say it real fast :D .

if they did id be all over it like white on rice. i would rather have one with a trolling motor so i could go back up river if i needed to. i think most do have a trolling motor and battery mount though. i really need to get one of these...crap id get one this weekend but i done have my semi-annual bonus allocated for new tires and skid plates for my wheeler.

Those are some nice smallies. I've been by the pegion many times and wished I had time to fish it, it is a good looking river. The Holston in Kingsport "near the Kodak plant I think it is" is a nice stretch of water also. MJ have you ever fished the New river? I've fished it several times and it has some big smallies in it. We fish it over near the Mouth of wilson in Virginia(where Oak Hill Academy is).
