Welcome to the site Bill...

Call Wayne at 606.248.0536 and tell him Scott Pace told you to call. He runs a preserve just down the road from you and has a bunch of great flying birds for sale right now. He called yesterday to let me know he had some in.

Pace

Yea. I am form M'boro...and have know Mt Drive and Davisburge and all the rest of the places very, very well....We go four wheeling all the time on Yellow Hill and ride to the lake..some times we go in a t Fern Lake and ride Tackett...but I like the other better...

Hey Pace,
This Wayne fellow are you talking about Burkheart in Auther Tn. he has had a lot of health problems and open heart surgery...I talked to his wife 2 weeks ago and he was not doing so well...I don't know of any other perserve in the area...but I thank you and will call today @ lunch time and see if I can buy some birds...There is nothing as fun as planting birds and letting a young dog find and point them and then letting kids shoot the birds everyone get excited...I have been doing this for a while and have found no better way to train the dogs and the kids...they both love it...

You're correct; he just about died. He is doing fine now though and called to let me know he was ok and had plenty of birds. He's going to try and get his preserve up and running soon.

Yeah, we've planted and worked our dogs on a lot of quail and visit the preserves from time to time. The is one in Owenton that we like a lot and also went to one near Kingsport a month or so ago. It was real nice with great flying birds. I've only worked Chief on quail one time this year; I generally just keep him on grouse.

Oh, let me tell you this one. Yesterday it felt like I had walked ten miles and had only moved three birds. On the way back to the truck, Chief goes up this big drain that was full of wild grapes. It was so thick that I couldn't see him....after a bit I hear his beeper about 50 yards up. I was killed and didn't really want to fight the tangles to get up there, so I just waited. After a minute, I gave the 'release' command. Nothing, he's still locked up and wont move. I 'release' again....again....and again. It occurs to me that he isn't going to break and I'm going to have to try to get up there. I finally get to him, beeper screaming the whole time, and there he is in a stare down with two big roosters. Both of them are 'ruffed' out and trying to stand their ground. As I moved, well, crawled in, they flushed and I pulled around to shoot and run into a small tree. I finally get free and shoot, but had no chance. I bet he was on point for 5 minutes.....lol
