Total # missed for season: 11 x 3 or 4

that is pretty good. Pace I have not heard of anyone else moving the bird like you have been.....I wonder if BCO bought that new ShotGun....my dog is still down..he foot swelled back up and he was three legging around the yard....I took him to the Vet on Sat...they X-rayed his foot and he still had about a 1" peice of stick stuck in his foot...they sedated him and cut it out...there is one little peice left right next to the bone they could not get...needless to say he is real sore...he is on medication...and I won't hunt him this week and maybe not next depending on how he gets around on it...that stick went all the way through his foot...how odd...any way the Vet thinks that..that small ppeice will work it's way out..I have to keep his foot wrapped and use Triple Antibotic Onit..on it for about ten days...I ordered me a set of boots for him from bass pro last night...they should be here Monday...that will help keep it clean...I leave Mnday night to go on a Deer Hunt at Barren River State Park..I hope I get big one...(RIFLE)

bill, Those boots work well, the dog may have to adjust to having them on though. They "feel" alot of things through their feet that they won't be able to do with the boots on. I use a set a Kevlar boots on my Lab when we pheasant hunt in Nebraska, they have these bushes out there that will stick small limbs right through the webbing between a dogs toes, it's gotta hurt.

Try to keep the weight off of the dogs foot as much as possible and keep an eye on the wound itself, make sure it doesn't get infected, the Triple will help a bunch. Might not hurt to let him wear his new boots for a couple of days around the house before you go out again, might save some transition time out in the field. Hope he heals up well. These dogs give so much, we gotta take care of them. Have a great day...

Welcome Dan...I bought Kevler boots I hope they work...he has been chewing off everything we put on him..trying to keep his foot clean...that stick went right through the center thick part of his big center pad...there is a hole as big as your index finger nail..this is were the vet cut it some to remove what she could of the stick...I am just wanting to use it around the house to keep the wound clean when he goes outside...he stayin in at night..I hope this helps keep it from getting infected I don't know if I will hunt him with them on his feet though..like you said they feel so much with there feet and we hunt some nasty stuff here...the vet said she would not put stiches in it hoping that the remaining peice will come out. and to let it heal from the inside out...but it is a big hole..I soak in Epsiom Salt every night I think that helps with the cleaning and swelling..he is doing a lot better...I can tell by the walks and puts his weight on it that he is going to be fine...My Dad and brother used to run Lab in the puppy trails in West Kentucky and sell them just before got old enough to compete in the Adult trails...they are a lot of fun...My neighbor has one we dove hunt with...she is a blacky....how do you find ducks in to hunt in Gatilnburg...

I hunted both Saturday and Sunday morning. Drove up past BCC to some great looking land. Saturday morning I moved three birds...this covert had everything I could have wanted. An old stripped hill that was choked down with a row of pine trees and autumn olive right on the edge of the woods. The edge of the woods was THICK....I mean THICK with wild grapes. They were everywhere up there. Anyway, yeah I moved 3, sapphire pointed all of them. 2 were right beside each other and flushed within about 15 seconds of each other....I was in such a thick mess of autumn olive I couldn’t swing my gun to get a shot. They flew way up the side of a hill and I caught them running up it then taking off flying again, so I didn’t try to reflush. The third one I flushed near the end of the covert, thought I got him because I saw feathers fly, but I was shooting through brush. The bird kept flying; sapphire looked for a long time but couldn’t find him. Kinda disappointing day but great in other ways, especially the spot. It’s a dandy.

Sunday I went and hunted the same spot. Got one that day...a weird looking grouse too :) Flushed another grouse that day and flat out missed (I busted it, dog was upwind so she didn’t smell it). I was pretty discouraged. I’d almost forgot how fast those suckers were. I was hunting with a buddy this day. We went to another spot that he knew kinda in the same area which was loaded down with grapes too, didn’t see any there but did see some turkey. Had to restrain myself from taking one
And sapphire had a few solid points which made me think she smelled some birds that had been there in the last little bit.

As far as the gun goes, pace after I called you I pretty much I got disgusted at BPS. My 2 buddies and the sales dude finally talked me into a Benelli semi (montiforto or something like that). I had 300 bucks in gift cards and was gonna pay the rest (about 900). Well I was going to use my debit card, they tried and it wouldn’t work because I have a $500 cap limit on it per purchase. so then I tried to write a check, and they had to call and verify it and the company they go through told them that I "didn’t have enough information" about my account, which is bullcrap because I’ve had it for years, and it had plenty of money in it. I even showed them a receipt that was 30 minutes old that showed how much I had in the account. They said there was nothing they could do and wouldn’t accept my check. I asked them if their check processing company didn’t have a way to check my account balance in real time since they didn’t have a real-time check processing machine at the store, they looked confused and couldn’t give me an answer. That’s when I started getting really mad. So I asked if I could try buying 2 $500 gift cards and using it that way (because I thought my cap limit on my debit card was $500 per transaction and not $500 per day, but wasn’t sure). They said they could try it but that if it didn’t work that they couldn’t refund the money for the gift cards that I would have JUST BOUGHT IN FRONT OF THEM and that I’d be stuck with a $500 gift card. I told them that I worked in retail my whole life and that that was the most ignorant thing I had ever heard. They didn’t bother calling a manager or tried to help me out any, basically made me look like I was trying to buy something I didn’t have the money for, started ignoring me and went to the next customer. So I told them to stick it where the sun doesn’t shine and that I’d spend my $1000 somewhere else and wouldn’t be back. Needless to say I won’t be back to BPS anytime for any major purchases. Heck the people they had working behind the gun counter didn’t know jack from apple butter. Guess I’ll have to wait a few more weeks, and then I’m going to Gander Mountain and looking for that same gun.

i mean yeah i understood the complications down at BPS, it was the fact that they weren't trying to do jack crap about it. if i was that salesperson id have found a way to sell me that gun, id have called the main manager if need be. oh well, like i said they just lost a customer.

and good thinkin on the KY Outdoorsman. I love that store, thatll be where I go. Maybe on my lunch break today....

That Montefeltro is a VERY nice gun; I have it in a 20 ga. and love it. Sounds like you did have a miserable evening down there...try Todd's Guns in London. That's where I bought my Benelli Super Black Eagle and they will beat or match any price you find. Other than that, Ky Outdoors as Bill mentioned, Antique and Modern Firearms and Evans Firearms in Lexington are pretty good.

this place back in BCC aint been hunted i dont think....its really hard walking. great place though. saw more deer sign than yall would believe. trees i couldnt get my hand around just rubbed to the nub.

ill show you were its at bill next time we go, its going toward davisburg.

and yeah pace dude i loved that gun. im gonna wait another 2 weeks, save up another paycheck and get it for sure. unless i find a good deal on it between now and then. BPS wanted a $1000 for it, and wouldnt come down a penny, even though the only one they had was the one on display.

sounds like a plan cause im going to pikeville this weekend and maybe hunting/ATV riding in harlan.

sorry to hear about busters foot. wonder if that happened to him when i found him down in that big pile of blow downs and briars, cause he looked like he was trapped but when he saw me he muscled his way out of it. anyway, hope he gets well soon.

yeah those turkey could have easily, easily been dropped yesterday. they flew right over our heads, 10-15 feet above us.

good luck on your deer hunt brother! bring home a biggun!

bill, Glad to hear your dog is doing better, the Epson salts will work, just make sure the water is warm, not too warm though when you soak his foot and don't let him drink any of the water, let's just say, he'll really need to go out at nioght... I would be 100% sure his foot is healed up before you take him hunting again, you know how these dogs are, they want to please us so bad, they don't look after their own well being, I'd hate to see him re-injure that foot again. Probably would be good to let him run some though,if he can, I know Lucy gets fat in a hurry if I let her lay 3 or 4 days.

I'm glad to hear his foot is healing well, could have been worse.

BCO, Sorry to hear about your trip to BPS, I think those boys are gettin' just a little big for their britches, they are doing what all companies do when they get the big head, they start making stupid rules that run off good, loyal customers. I won't ever buy another gun from them either, ( bad experience at the Nashville store.)

You could also try Gamaliel Shooting supply, I have bought literally tons of lead shot from them and hundreds of pounds of powder, they sell Beretta and Benelli on a wholesale level, probably would make you a great deal.

bill, We do the vast majority of our duck hunting in Sebree, KY. A family friend has about 3,000 acres of flooded timber and fields over there. It is also a hunting lodge for paying deer and turkey hunters. (Deer Creek Lodge). Very nice place, bow hunting of deer only (I think, maybe muzzleloader too), they have a feeding / nutrition program in place.

Deer Creek Lodge is a pricey place....why not hunt over in Peabody..I grew up in that part of woods and know for a fact that the local rivers hold a lot of great duck hunting...you can float Rough creek some call it a river I never did...it is a creek to me...or float Green river there is plenty of shooting there...I know the Ohio is hard to hunt on but there is plenty of sloughs in that area that hold great flight patterens of ducks...
I got to hunt on Barren River State Park the last two days...I killed one Doe and it was a blast...I hunted the golf course..in fact I hunted Tee 16 ..it was different but a lot of fun...

anyone go this weekend? i didnt get to, even though it didnt rain like it said it was going to. i had stuff on the honey-do list in pikeville all weekend long :?

2 of my buddies got dogs this past weekend though, which is really cool cause now ive got even more people to go with. bill you may know one or both of them. one is my friend blaine mike (coach mikes oldest son), ive known him since we were really young, and we've kinda drifted apart since he got married and all, but now he got an older setter dog and is eager to start hunting. my other friend is lee hardin (dennis hardins son), who just got a setter from someone paul napier knows. lee was actually with me the other day when i killed that...uh...funny looking grouse. hes got a real woods-sense about him.

bill, let me know when you get a chance to hunt again. pace you need to come down. maybe we could schedule a hunt this weekend, saturday perhaps. ill be hunting both saturday and sunday (hopefully it wont rain sunday).
