Justed wanted to know what everybody is going to be shooting this season...what is your gun and shell size and shot size..how is the pattern...I shoot a 835 granslam with ported mad tub and 3 1/2 winchester high volicity...they shoot great but I have missed several times when I let the turkey get to close and try head shots...

I have 870 super mag & a 1187. Believe or not I haven't found time in the past to even pattern either one. I usually hunt with the 870 and use Winchester Supreme 3 1/2 # 5 shot.

A couple of us Turkey Hunters has been PMing each other about a friendly little hunting contest for this year. We were thinking of having a few teams to sort-a complete against each other. I hope you will join in on the fun.

I wouldn't take the shot, but placed 17 pellets in the head/neck while patterning this setup at 70 yards. 50 yards and in have been easy shots the past two years. Now, you may wonder why I'm shooting a #6 shot; due to the density of the Hevi-Shot, I'm getting the same kinetic energy as a #4 in lead which obviously provides a lot more pellets.

i shoot a mossberg 835 ultimag...usually winchester supreme 3.5" no. 4 or 5's.

I am retiring my 870 Express. It's been a good gun, 870's are like a rock. I have on order a new Benelli Super Black Eagle II all black with a 24 inch barrel. These guns aint cheap I tell ya but I plan on using it for everything (turkey, rabbit, sqwak, dove, duck, geese). I normally use different guns throughout the hunting season, so now I have a designated do-all gun. It actually should be here today or tomorrow. I will be shooting Nitro 4x5x7 HeviShot through a Primos Jelly Head .660. Needless to say, but I cant wait to pattern it.

My friend CBass on here shot some Nitro 4x5x7 Hevi Shot through his Remington 870 SPS-T and a Rhino choke and had a devistating pattern at 40 yards. We plan on shooting when I get my new gun in.

That hevi shot is high dollar but I have heard great things about the distance it holds...I like to get the bird close and listen to the spit'n and drummin...this usually why I miss... I can not keep my head down..I get to excited and get caught in watching the show..and the last few years it has taken me shooting at 5-6 before I calm down and get to business..for the last few years I have had to buy extra an box of shells...I shot at one 4 time last year on opening morning...the first shot was less than 10 yrds..3.5'" #5...I shot 3 times boom boom boom and that sucker was so love struck he just stood there..I grabbed another shell out of my vest and throwed it the chamber slamed it shut and shot agian and missed agian...tight chokes ain't for everyday...after that I had the shakes so bad I thought he deservied to live and let him go..I still had two shells left in my vest also...I know most of you reading this are laughing because you have been there ..but that is why I am hook on turkey hunting...missing makes for a longer season...and I am good at missing...and I really do get ribbed alot by the guys I hunt with espically when I have to bum shells...I have bought my son a Rem. 870 20 ga in a youth model with a undertaker choke tube at 30 yards the 3" win. #5 does very well and I have heard the heavy shot is better however I have not tried it...but the gun is small and light and is a pleasure to carry...I am excited about using it this season...

I have heard many things about the HeviShot ammo also. I figured I'll give it a try.

Well, I have never really been. I plan to go this year- l already got a buddy with a farm that gets em every year that is letting me hunt with him. I don't really know what all this technical talk is about on here. My gun is pretty simple and low tech. I have a Charles Daly that I bought brand new last year. I guess its a turkey gun because its Real Tree camoed. Its a 20 guage and I bought a full Remington Turkey choke for it. I looked at 12 gauge but didn't have the money. Besides I have 3 friends that have hunted turkeys for years with a 20 gauge and they always seem to get one.

I've got a single shot, sling shot that's real deadly. But just in case if it misfires I'll have my remington 870 sps turkey, loaded with some 3 inch fed. premium #5 shot. I've had great sucess with this combo so I'll stick with it. I've seen too many people shooting the 3.5 mag shells at close range miss and wonder why. I laughed my head off at 1 of my buddies, he's never killed and wanted me to take him and call 1 in for him. Well the plan worked till he got the shot. He MISSED, that's when the laughter started, not because he missed, but when he commenced to cursing and slinging his gun. He knocked the rear sight loose. We got back to camp and after some Mcgyver ingenuity with a bread tie, we stepped off 40 yards and tested his gun out on a paper plate. It plastered the plate. So its not the gun most of the time its the person behind it. With the newer shells, these things shoot like rifles.

YOU BE HOOKED.....I LIKE A 20 THEY ARE LIGHT AND THAT IS WHAT MY SON SHOOTS...IT DEADLY TO 30-35 YRDS...I SHOOT THE BIG 3.5 12GA..AS YOU HAVE READ I MISSED UP CLOSE SEVERAL TIMES..MOST OF THE TIME I JUST GET TO EXCITED WHEN THAT TURKEY GET IN THAT CLASE AND GET CAUGHT UP IN WATCHING THE BIRDS AND JUST MISS...IT HAPPENES EVERY YEAR TO ME...

That's one thing about turkey hunting its very exciting and challenging. Don't ever lose that thought of excitement and nervousness or the fun has left ya. Alot of times I get more nervous and shaky after the kill.

I use a 870 super mag .With #4 Winchester heavy loads in 3 and a half inch magnum.I like to use shoot and see turkey head targets to pattern it .At 25 yards I have put 42 shoots in the head and neck.I don't know what kind of choke it has in it .It came with the gun.I have killed turkeys from 20 to 60 yards with the same set up.But shooting at a target and shooting at a turkey are two different things all together. That's why it's called hunting instead of killing.

Probably a super full turkey choke , or thats what my 870 super mag came with. I have a buddy who has the same gun and he bought a Kicks choke,..he said it would double the amount of shots(pellets) in a target compared to the factory super full.

May have to buy me kicks
