They are absolutely strutting and gobbling everywhere around here. Yesterday evening I went out to my lease farm to hang some no hunting signs and I decided to take my dvd camcorder. Sure enough, way out in the field, I thought I saw some turkeys. I got low and crawled in some high grass on top of a knoll on my belly. I captured on film turkeys doing their thing. It was amazing. Two big gobblers were struting for a few hens and chasing off some pestering jakes. Then, three of the jakes starting walking right towards me. I made sure the camera was on record and snuggled into the earth. Those jakes walked right up to me. One got within 12 yards of me. All captured on video. People never would have believed me, plus it being April Fools Day also. But, the proof is in the footage. This will make great footage for my Spring Turkey Hunting DVD coming out this summer!!!

Had to go back to Pikeville again this evening and low and behold here's another Tom right next to the 4 lane at a different place. Just guess where my cameras were ?? Yes,... at the house sitting on the desk :(

Friend in Lawrence Co. said there was a Jake strutting in the southbound lane of US 23 yesterday. I would dare to say he didn't make it long if he did get off the road.

Went back out to the farm this morning. Started breaking daylight much earlier. A nice throaty tom started gobbling right at 6:30am 'bout 125 yards from me. I left around 7:45 cause if he pitched down to the field, he could probably see my truck. He's there, no need to bother him. ;)
