Rain, Rain, and more rain here,.. BCO and I went to an old strip mine field where I had heard one gobble yesterday,.. hoping the rain would let up. Waiting inside a camo ground blind the rain just wouldn't go away, so after a couple hours we gave up to return another day :(

Still raining here.

Seen 2 wood ducks ,..definitely a good day for ducks.

I was at my girlfriends house this evening, and we were outside working on bolting an ATV box down. Up behind her house, the hill is cut off and it is just a big grassy hillside. I don't if it was the hunters running the turkey off the hill, or the fact that it is probably good place for them to eat, but we heard a couple of them skirting ride at the edge of the woods and the grass.

Of course, if I were hunting for turkey, nothing like that would ever happen. I'd say, the way were a gobbling, it wouldn't have been too hard to call them on out.

Went in a mad dash after work to Fern lake to see if I could stumble across one. Got to hunt between 7pm and dark. Not one gobble. May try again tonight.

Not sure about you guys, but the birds I'm finding lately are hanging tight to the hens and don't seem to want to budge. I've hunted nearly every evening this week and what gobbles I've heard have been soon followed by a yelp, cut and a sweet goodbye!

I did end up in a pretty good situation this morning; I had three going at day break....was perfectly positioned in the middle with one to my left and two to my right. About fly down time, here comes a guy hootn' and yelpn'....things got quite fast. I heard one more bird and he was waaaay to far to trek after.

We'll see what happens in the morning...

Having a tough time on this end of the state. Haven't been able to go out for a couple of days,..so when daylight came this morning I was sitting where I knew one was roosting a couple days before. He was GONE :(

So I headed back to the high country at break neck speed in order to get a location on something gobbling. As soon as I topped up and shut the atv off,. one gobbled. Off again for a 1/2 mile ride to get to his location.
To make a long story short after 2 hrs calling and him gobbling 500 times,. I finally gave up to find out later there was a rock cliff running parallel to the ridge between the tom and me, preventing him from coming to my calling.

Two other hunters heard the same bird,.one hunter left his truck on top of one mtn walking down and up to the other mtn. were the tom was gobbling. Before he could get there the other hunter drove to the mouth of the hollow were the tom was and proceed up the mtn. ......he harvested the tom.

I only heard one other tom this morning,..so things are not looking to good for tomorrow.

My day started out like yours JD. I heard a bird at daybreak, but a guy drove his truck between me and my buddy and the bird, so on out the road we went. As we round the first point and call, a hen answers down the mountain followed by a faint gobble. After I kill myself to get down closer to them and like you said - 500 gobbles later I gave up. He wouldn't leave her, she didn't want to fight with me, and I didn't want to waist any more of my morning.

My buddy left to check out a new spot, so I decided to keep going.....a couple points later, I had one gobble on a bench about 80 yards below the road I was on. As I was crawling to look over the bank, he started to gobble on his own so I knew my chances were good. When I got to where I could see, I made a couple soft calls, scratched the leaves and he came in on a string.

This morning wasn't bad,..but wasn't good either. Found 3 in same area about 1/2 after daylight. I stalked as close as I could,.setup and began to call the closest tom. The answer I got was a boss hen,..who if she could talk English said "here we are,.. come on over".
After a few minutes of calling I could tell she was leading him off in the opposite direction.
The other to birds were close,. but I was setup all wrong to even try to persuade them to come in,.. So not to disturb them I just backed off till in the morning an try for a better setup.
But I could tell the other two toms had hens with them also by their lack of interest.
Plus the 3 deer I jump up in the area didn't help anything either.

Congratulation to you & brother in Law. Looks like that Cody Call has done its job again,..again,..and again.....

I hunted a low road this morning 'trying' to get out of the wind. Only one bird gobbled (1 time)....tons of scratching, etc. but nothing was saying much. The lone gobbler had three hens with him....they walked about 5 yards from me, putted, flew up in the trees....on and on.

I'll try again tomorrow evening after work.

Sounds like you're on some birds JD. Stay with them; when the hens start to set those gobblers will be ready for you.

Still no tom for me,..to many other hunters ,..with to few Toms.

I would guess to say that I travel 30 miles through the Mtn's today,.. from daylight until 3pm. Only heard two toms, no luck with either.

Here's my 2nd turkey for the year. I got him last Thursday evening in between downpours; I bet he gobbled 50 times!

I took my nephew yesterday and only heard one. He gobbled twice and that was it; I'm sure he was with hens. Today I was able to help a buddy get one; he gobbled his head off on the rooste, but shut up when he hit the ground. We didn't know at the time, but figured he was with a hen. He 'was'....
