birds are acting wierd this year. they won't really bother with a mouth call but will answer a box or high pitched slate call. i went this morning after my gun jammed on one yesterday. i used a cedar box i made. birds would gobble on the roost then shut up. like yesterday i used scratching in the leaves and purring to call both birds in.

i heard 5 total in the past 2 days. this one came in from behind me and never gobbled till he was just below me. i had just enough time to crawl across the road and get my gun up. i never made another call, just scratching at the leaves. here he came. my gun jammed again but one was all i needed today. when i went to get him he got my thumb pretty good, to the bone it feels like. it cleaned up good but i bleed hard for awhile. it was like a catfish spike.

he has to be an old turkey but he didn't appear to have been breeding any hens yet. he just bearly had a bald spot on his belly. he weighed 21lbs. even 11" beard 1 1/4" & 1 3/8" spurs. the only tree i could find was the apple and the limb was pointing down. i hooked one of his spurs in it and he hung. i killed one 5 years ago that had one spur 1 5/8" and the other one looked like a jake. so i'm pretty happy with 2 big spurs. they hang alot easier.LOL

when Elijah seen him his eyes lit up. i can't wait to take him and let him hear one. we will worry about him killing something later.

thanks for looking

God Bless

Jeffro, congratulations on a fine LIMBHANGER !!!! :)

As I read your post and scrolled down looking at the photos and came to the one with the box call,... I knew who you were then. I have admired your handy work often on the other websites. :)

I dabble in making a call from time to time,.. and should have long before now logged into the other sites and thank folks like you and Alex Williams(Ga.) for helping all of us out here with the free advice on making calls..

A lot of peeps don't realize or have knowledge of,.. that we have people right here in Ky. with such talents as you guys have.
I played with box call that was made by another person in Bell Co. last weekend. Also a nice call !!
Found another guy on the web last nite who lives in Baxter Ky who makes some good looking pots.
**************************

I haven't got to hunt the last couple of days,..but have found the birds the same as you described above. I have a buddy in Lawrence Co. who is having the same problems,.. gooble on the roost,.. then once they hit the ground,.. they shut off.

Don't remember his name ,..but Bell County Outdoorsman has the call I played with. When he gets back in from hunting this weekend I'm sure he can tell us.
It may have been one of yours :!: :?:
