Governor Ernie Fletcher bags a wild turkey this weekend on “Kentucky Afield” television

April 23, 2007 Contact: Scott Moore
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 1-800-852-0942, ext. 432

Frankfort, Ky. – A driving cold rain and 20 mph winds on opening day of Kentucky’s 2007 wild turkey season did not deter two hardy hunters from going afield in pursuit of this wily bird. Watch “Kentucky Afield” television this weekend, April 28 and 29, as Governor Ernie Fletcher and Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commissioner Jon Gassett hunt under the worst conditions imaginable.

It is a standing tradition over the years that “Kentucky Afield” television accompanies governors on their annual turkey trek. This year, Gov. Fletcher’s persistence paid off with a 25-pound gobbler that would be a trophy in anyone’s book. While Gassett did not bag a bird on opening day, he did take a gobbler later in the week in his pursuit of a Grand Slam for turkey hunters.

Elsewhere, what does it take to catch crappie at Kentucky Lake? One angler finds you don’t need a boat at all. Here are some tips and techniques you can literally take to the bank.

And what’s all that chirping? Host Tim Farmer visits his cousin they call the “Cricket Farmer.” Barry Farmer raises crickets as a favorite for bait shops. With 7 million crickets currently, his operation is growing by leaps.

“Kentucky Afield” is a production of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. It is the longest continuously-running outdoor television show in the nation. “Kentucky Afield” airs Saturday at 8:30 p.m. Eastern /7:30 p.m. Central and will be repeated on Sunday at 4 p.m. Eastern/3 p.m. Central on KET 1.

Wow....Id watch that.
I remember about a year ago watching Jimmy Houston fishing with President Bush on his private lake...that was pretty neat.

Any luck in the turkey woods yet JD?
