The river is really about where it should be (even with the drought) there is pretty good water flow, but I just don't see the fish that I saw last year . With all the mining and things going on in the area that may have affected them . They are a lot more sensitive to their enviroment than the other fish in the river. I'm just hoping that I'm wrong but the fishing is horrible so far this year. :(

Yeah if it doesn't pickup soon I guess I'm going to have to try the middle or south fork to see if it's any better.

That's what I read in the past and with that many flying around the night you were fishing ,..it has to be a good indicator of the health of the Powell.

Here is the link for U of Ky page on the Dobson fly(grampus) that I've read before and a couple of quotes from the page.
http://www.uky.edu/Ag/CritterFiles/case ... nflies.htm

Quote:
ECOLOGY

Dobsonflies and fishflies live most of their lives in the larval stage, often 2 or 3 years. Larval dobsonflies and fishflies, often called "hellgrammites", are large, worm-like, aquatic predators that live under rocks and logs in streams. They feed on minnows, tadpoles, insects, and other aquatic prey. Hellgrammites require very clean, unpolluted water to live. Most adult dobsonflies and fishflies do not feed at all.

DOBSONFLY FACTS

Although they are not as sensitive to pollution as stoneflies and mayflies, hellgrammites still need clean water to live. Fisherman once commonly used hellgrammites as fish bait, but polluted streams have made hellgrammites less common.

Scientists can tell how polluted a stream is based on what aquatic insect species are present. Read more about using insects to determine water quality:

I'm not seeing any on the north at all. which the water quality has never been that good on the north due to the mining and construction in the area. Unless I'm mistaken there is not much of that going on down in BCO's stomping grounds.

I saw one in the adult stage @ Evarts last year around the camp fire. So I guess the Clover Fork is in a come back stage and the water is getting cleaner.

JD have you been checking out any places to fish over in your area? Have you and your son been fishing anymore?

Matt & I talked last night after dark,..wondering what we had done this weekend that we didn't try to go fishing somewhere. For some reason I stay to busy. :(

Matt did go cat fishing with a couple of friends for a few hours Saturday night.

I know one thing the river's are in excellent fishing condition at this time. I drive by one quite often and it is very low and clear,..even with the T storms we have had here in the last couple days.
