I like the new Gps thread. How hard would it be to setup the website for someone to submit and share GPS tracks? Is it possible? Kind of submit them like you do for photos.

I agree, that would be pretty nice to have. Somewhere to upload tracks to, that other people could download them. Have a description of the track, saying how difficult it is, maybe some waypoints of overlooks, elk viewing areas, etc.

I've been giving it some thought, and I've come up with something I think would work well for the GPS tracks.
You know, like if I was coming to Harlan County to ride, and I wanted to know what an easy ride would, and I asked one of the members, and they told me to take trail 10, to 12, turn left on 35, right on 22, then run back to 11 (I'm just making numbers up, I don't have a map here to even look at). Well, if someone took that ride and made a track log with their GPS, they could share just that track with me as an easy ride. It wouldn't be any different than someone telling me what trail numbers to take, shouldn't take anything away from any map sales either. I know I would still want a map on hand, just in case for some reason I wanted to take a slightly different route than what is in the track log.
With this type of thing you could have different types of rides for everyone to download. You could have a "muddy" track, "wild" track, "mild", "scenic", "rocky", etc.. Then people could have those tracks to follow around the trails, and be able to use them to go on those trails.
I think this would work out well, just so long as the track maker wouldn't be held for any liability due to anything that happens when the track user was out on the trails. It also shouldn't take any thing away from map sales, because there would still be use for it to find and ride other trails, plus it's a great souvenir. I've even been thinking about taking some of my souvenir maps and framing them to decorate my "man" room with.

Here is what I do...I'll use the my Redbird Crest trail tracklog for an example.
I color coded each section (1-22) so that someone can tell when they cross into a new section. The blue and yellow sections are quad trails, the red and dark red sections are singletrack motorcycle trails and the blue is alternate trails.
This has worked well for me and people that have used my tracks.
